Texcovery publishes journalism, analysis and opinion about technology and the companies that build it. This page explains what our content is and is not, how we make money from some of the links and products that appear on the Site, and what to do if you think we got something wrong. It forms part of our terms and conditions.

Information, not advice

Everything on texcovery.com, in our newsletter and on our social channels is published for general information and education. We explain how things work and what is happening, but we do not know your circumstances, and we are not your adviser.

  • Not financial or investment advice. We write about startups, funding rounds, public tech companies, fintech products and crypto infrastructure. None of it is a recommendation to buy, sell or hold any security, token or other asset, or to invest in any company. Valuations, revenue figures and market forecasts we report can be wrong or out of date. Talk to a registered adviser before making investment decisions.
  • Not legal advice. When we cover privacy law, AI regulation, intellectual property, employment law or startup financing, we describe the law in general terms. Laws change, differ between provinces and countries, and apply differently to different facts. If you have a legal question about your situation, consult a lawyer licensed where you live.
  • Not tax or accounting advice. Articles about SR&ED credits, GST/HST, stock options or crypto taxation are background reading, not a substitute for advice from an accountant or tax professional.
  • Not professional security advice. Our cybersecurity coverage offers practical, general guidance. If your organization has been breached or you are responsible for protecting sensitive systems, bring in a qualified incident-response or security professional.

You are responsible for how you use what you read here. Texcovery Media is not liable for decisions you make based on our content, to the extent the law allows.

Opinion and analysis

Some pieces are labelled “Opinion”, “Analysis” or “Column”. These reflect the views of the writer, based on facts we have checked, but they are arguments, not neutral reporting. Guest contributors’ views are their own and not necessarily those of Texcovery. Comments posted by readers are the views of the people who post them.

Accuracy and corrections

We check facts before we publish and link to our sources so you can check them too. Even so, we sometimes get things wrong, and technology stories change fast: a product spec gets revised, a funding round closes at a different number, a company reverses a policy. Articles reflect what we knew at the time of publication, and the publication date is shown on every article.

When we find or are told about an error of fact, we correct it and add a dated note at the bottom of the article explaining what changed. We do not quietly rewrite facts. Significant updates to developing stories are also flagged. To report an error, email [email protected] with the article link and the source for the correct information. Our full corrections process is described in our editorial policy.

Affiliate links

Some articles, especially buying guides and reviews, contain affiliate links. If you click one of these links and buy something, the retailer may pay Texcovery a small commission. The price you pay is the same whether you use our link or not.

Affiliate relationships do not influence what we recommend. Our editors choose products based on testing, research and reader needs before any affiliate link is added, and we regularly recommend products for which we earn nothing. Retailers and brands do not see our reviews before publication and cannot pay to be included. Every article that contains affiliate links carries a short notice near the top saying so.

Prices and availability shown in articles were accurate when we checked but change often. The retailer’s site is the final word on price, stock, shipping and returns, and any purchase you make there is governed by the retailer’s terms, not ours.

Sponsored content and advertising

Texcovery is funded in large part by advertising. Display ads are clearly separated from editorial content, and advertisers have no influence over our coverage.

From time to time, we publish sponsored content: articles or newsletter segments paid for by a company. Sponsored content is always labelled “Sponsored” or “Paid partnership” at the top, names the sponsor, and is produced separately from our newsroom. Our reporters and editors do not write sponsored content. Sponsored links that pass search ranking value are marked with rel="sponsored", in line with search engine guidelines.

We do not accept payment to publish, change or remove news articles, and we do not sell links inside editorial content. If anyone claims to be able to buy coverage on Texcovery, please let us know at [email protected].

Product mentions and reviews

Mentioning a product, company or service in an article is not an endorsement. We name companies because they are part of the story, and naming one product over another usually reflects what we tested or what was newsworthy, not a commercial relationship.

When we review a product, we say how we got it: bought it ourselves, borrowed it from the manufacturer, or received it as a sample. Loaned products are returned after testing. Samples we keep are donated or used for future comparisons, never resold. Manufacturers do not approve or preview reviews.

Trademarks, product names and company names on the Site belong to their respective owners. Using them in our coverage does not imply any affiliation with or endorsement by those owners.

Our own shop

Texcovery sells a small range of branded merchandise in our shop. When we mention our own products on the Site or in the newsletter, we make clear they are ours. Shop sales do not influence our editorial coverage, and we do not write about our own merchandise as if it were independent product news.

External links

We link generously to sources, documents and other publications. Those sites are outside our control. We are not responsible for their content, accuracy, availability or privacy practices, and a link is not an endorsement. If you find a broken or harmful link on our Site, please tell us and we will fix or remove it.

Security and technical content

Our cybersecurity articles may describe how attacks or vulnerabilities work so that readers can understand and defend against them. We do not publish working exploit code, stolen data or step-by-step instructions intended to help someone break into systems they do not own. Testing systems without permission may be illegal. Use any technical information responsibly and only on systems you are authorized to test.
