This page explains which cookies texcovery.com uses, what they do, how long they last and how you can control them. It supplements our privacy policy. We have tried to list the cookies our site actually sets rather than give you a generic description, and we review the list whenever we add or remove a plugin or service.
What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file that a website stores in your browser. The site (or a service it uses) can read the cookie on later visits to remember something: that you are logged in, what is in your cart, or whether you have already answered the cookie banner. Some cookies are deleted when you close your browser (“session cookies”); others stay until they expire or you delete them (“persistent cookies”).
Cookies set by texcovery.com are “first-party” cookies. Cookies set by other companies whose services we use, such as Google, are “third-party” cookies. We also use similar technologies, such as browser local storage and tracking pixels in our newsletter. In this policy, “cookies” covers all of these.
How we ask for consent
We use CookieYes to manage cookie consent. On your first visit, a banner appears at the bottom of the screen with three options:
- Accept all: allows every category of cookie described below.
- Reject all: allows only strictly necessary cookies.
- Customize: lets you switch each category on or off individually.
Until you make a choice, only strictly necessary cookies are set. Analytics, advertising and functional cookies stay off, and the scripts that would set them are blocked. This is the case for every visitor, and it meets Québec’s requirement that technologies capable of identifying, locating or profiling you are disabled by default.
Your choice is stored in a cookie called cookieyes-consent and is valid for 12 months. After that, or if you clear your cookies, the banner will ask you again. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as a refusal of advertising cookies.
How to change your mind
You can change or withdraw your consent at any time:
- Click Cookie settings in the footer of any page on texcovery.com.
- The consent panel will open, showing your current choices.
- Switch categories on or off and click Save my preferences.
Withdrawing consent stops new cookies in that category from being set. Cookies that were already set will expire on their own, or you can delete them through your browser settings. You can also block or delete cookies directly in your browser; the help pages for Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge explain how. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may stop parts of the site, such as the shop cart and checkout, from working.
Cookie categories
Strictly necessary
These cookies are needed for the site to work and cannot be switched off in our consent tool. They make the shop cart and checkout work, keep logged-in users signed in, remember your cookie choices and protect the site from attacks. They do not track you across other websites. Under Canadian privacy law and the GDPR, these cookies do not require consent because they are essential to a service you have requested.
Functional
Functional cookies remember choices you make to give you a more convenient experience, such as remembering your name and email in the comment form if you ask us to, or allowing embedded videos and social media posts to load. If you turn these off, embedded content will show a placeholder with a link to view it on the original site.
Analytics
Analytics cookies help us understand how readers use Texcovery: which articles are read, how long people stay, how they found us and what devices they use. We use Google Analytics 4 for this. The data is aggregated, IP addresses are not stored by Google Analytics 4, and we do not use it to identify individual readers. These cookies are set only if you consent.
Advertising
Advertising cookies are set by our ad partners, including Google. They are used to show ads, limit how often you see the same ad, measure whether ads are effective and, depending on the partner’s settings, show ads based on your interests. These cookies are set only if you consent. If you refuse, you will still see ads on Texcovery, but they will not use cookies to personalize them.

Embedded videos and social media posts may set their own cookies, such as YouTube’s VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE and YSC, when they load. Because we block embeds until you allow functional cookies, these are not set unless you consent or click to load the embed.
Newsletter tracking
Our newsletter includes a small, invisible image (a tracking pixel) and tracked links so we can see, in aggregate, how many people open each issue and which stories they click. This is not controlled by the cookie banner because it happens in your email client, not on our site. You can prevent it by disabling automatic image loading in your email app, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
Opting out of ad personalization elsewhere
In addition to our cookie banner, you can manage interest-based advertising through:
- Google’s ad settings at adssettings.google.com;
- the Digital Advertising Alliance of Canada’s AdChoices program at youradchoices.ca; and
- the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, available from Google.
Changes to this policy
We update this page when we change the tools we use or when providers change their cookies. The “last updated” date at the top tells you when we last revised it. If we add a new category of cookie, the consent banner will ask you again.
